SCOTTISH NATIONAL CBS
SHOW CANCELLED
It is with great sadness that the Committee of the Scottish National Cage Bird Society have, for the second year running, had to take the decision to cancel the Annual Show which was due to be held on 31st December 2011 and 1st January 2012 in the Blackburn Community Centre, West Lothian. We are very disappointed as a lot of time and energy went into the organisation of the Show.

Last year´s Show had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. This year´s Show has had to be cancelled due to a significant drop in the number of entries received - a trend which seems to have affected many Cage Bird Shows this year. To date, with the closing date only 24 hours away, the total entry stands at 296. This large drop in entries may be due to the malicious, and completely unfounded, rumours which seem to be circulating indicating that the Show had been cancelled. It could also be due to the Show date, the venue, the costs involved, or fewer fanciers showing their birds, or perhaps it may be that many fanciers are now being more selective in the Shows they exhibit at. Whatever the reason, it is financially impossible for the Scottish National CBS to stage their Annual Show with so few entries.

There are many outgoing costs involved in staging a Show, namely the hall hire, prize money, Judges´ expenses, the printing of schedules and catalogues together with a high postal outlay, plus many other sundry expenses. If the entries are not received, there are fewer memberships received and fewer visitors to the actual Show itself. The money received from entries, donations and entry to the Show are all vitally important to the financial well being of any Cage Bird Society, so as you can appreciate everything has a knock-on effect.

We thank the fanciers who did put in an entry, the traders who showed an interest in attending the Show and the people who sponsored us in any way, and can only apologise to them for the cancellation, but we hope you will understand and agree we had no option but to make the decision we did.

There is a meeting at the end of January, details of which will be printed in the Cage and Aviary Birds, to decide on the future of the Scottish National Cage Bird Society and the format of the next Annual Show.

On behalf of the Committee
